Spot report – Chichibu Shrine (2023-11-05)

Webmaster had a short visit to Chichibu Shrine in Saitama Prefecture.

According to the tradition, the shrine has a history for more than two thousands. Present main hall was rebuilt in 1592 financially supported by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.

 

The main hall is decorated with various reliefs and sculptures. It has been under repair and repainting since 2019. Now, visitors see them with their original vivid coloring.

 

 

 

Ema, votive plaques, on which individual wish are written are hanged.

 

Otabisho of the shrine, in front of which the festival floats are got together on 3rd December, is illuminated. In the small pavilion, a stone statue of tortoise called Kamenokoishi is enshrined. Its face is a little bit scary.
