Spot report – Eihei-ji Temple (2017-12-01)

Webmaster visited Eihei-ji Temple last week. Eihei-ji Temple, one of the famous zen temples in Japan, was founded by Master Dogen in 1244. Even today, more than one hundred monks are in training. (It is prohibited to take any photo of such monks.)

Before visiting the temple, Webmaster took lunch in one of the restaurants on the Street between the bus stop and the temple. Buckwheat noodles are famous here.

There are many large cedar trees in the precincts.

Visitors can also enter the complex of temple buildings. Admission:¥500 for adult.

 

Sanshokaku. It’s very large room. The ceiling is filled with fine paintings.

This is a toilet house for visitors in front of the entrance. It’s also well designed to harmonize with the sacred precincts, isn’t it?

 

The shopping and restaurant street between the temple and the bus stop. Heavy rain came suddenly when Webmaster was walking back to the bus stop.
