Webmaster visited Enman-in Temple in Shiga Prefecture two weeks ago. This place is close to Kyoto, but it was very quiet.
Access: Osaka (local train 0:40) Otsukyo (walk 0:05) Keihan-otsukyo (local train 0:03) Miidera (walk 0:10) @
The garden of Enman-in is designated as the Place of Scenic Beauty. One cherry tree was still in blossom. The white particles floating on the water were petals of cherry blossom.
Shinden Hall next to the garden is also designated as Important Cultural Property, which was a part of imperial palace and removed here in 1647.
Inside the Shinden Hall. The paintings on fusuma (sliding doors) were marvelous.
The view of the garden from the inside of Shinden Hall.
Hondo Hall (the Main Hall) of the temple which is connected to the Shinden Hall with a corridor over the pond.
Buddhist altar in the Hondo Hall.
There is a museum of Otsu-e Japanese-style painting in the temple.
It takes only 40 minutes from Kyoto. Please come here!
