Spot report – Hakone-jinja Shrine (2020-08-08)

Webmaster visited Hakone-jinja Shrine. The shrine is located at the shore of Lake Ashinoko on Mt. Hakone.

Mt. Hakone is an active volcano with huge caldera, and Ashinoko is a caldera lake.

 

 

This lake has a legend of the dragon with nine heads which had caused floods and landslides. The shrine was dedicated to the dragon and is the guardian of Kanto Region.

 

 

Torii gate at the entrance from the lake. We cannot enter from this side, but the deity and the priests for ceremonies only.

 

 

An approach from the land for visitors

 

 

The main hall can be seen on top of the stone stairs.

 

 

The precincts are surrounded by huge cedar trees.

Webmaster prayed for the wane of the epidemic, of course.

 

It was fine and hot, many visitors enjoyed swan-shaped pedaling boat on the lake.
